Black Fireplaces

Black electric fireplaces have become increasingly popular but we do get a lot of questions about what style of home they work best in. This is presumably because many people struggle to envisage black options working well with their existing decor.

So let's talk a bit about situations where they can work well.

Getting the right room

Many of these fireplaces tend to be installed in living rooms or dining rooms. Is that because they work best in these rooms? Not necessarily so, but these are certainly areas of the home where they can have a dramatic impact.

It's clear that many people opt for electric suites because they're looking for a centre-piece for a room. Given that the living room and dining room are both often used for entertaining, it makes a lot of sense to use fireplaces in these rooms.

But that doesn't mean that they won't work elsewhere. We've also seen them successfully used in studies (offices) and bedrooms, where they can work particularly well.

So don't limit yourself to thinking that they can only work well in one particular room of the house. They offer more flexibility than you may currently be imagining.

Enhance their effect

The trick with a black electric fire is to build the room around the fireplace. That doesn't mean physically re-building or re-modelling the room, but it does mean choosing your colour scheme and furniture to make the most of the new fireplace.

This makes a lot of sense - if you're picking out a black fireplace because you won't to make it the central focal point of the room then you'll want to show it off, rather than detract from it by opting for a colour scheme that simply doesn't work.

Most online fireplace retailers will allow you to select from a range of fireplace surrounds too. Choose carefully, as you'll find that these can also have quite a big impact on how the fire ends up looking within the room.
